The Academy of St Mary-le-Bow performs a concert of music inspired by the theme of ‘Enchantment’ filled with magic, fairies, witches and wizards. St Cuthbert’s will be transformed, with lighting and sound, into an enchanted forest for a programme that includes Mendelssohn’s incidental music from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ brought to life by actress Wallis Hamilton Felton, as well Dukas’ The Sorcerer's Apprentice, made famous by a lazy Mickey Mouse in Disney’s Fantasia!
Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique concludes the programme, telling the story of a young artist, who, enchanted by his love, dreams a gruesome tale where he is marched to the execution scaffold, condemned for the murder of his beloved, and sees her dancing with witches, shades, sorcerers and monsters at his funeral – All this just in time for Halloween!
